  Notes	They homesteaded at Stoney Lake, SK, proving 2 sections of land. The family had to live on each section for six months at a time in order to meet the homestead requirements. As per Rae “The East house was built running North and South about 8-10 ft East of the border line. West house was built running East-West. When the time came Grandpa, with the help of skids and a couple teams of horses pulled the West house up to the East house aligning the two doors. The house had been built with both doors opening to the inside and exactly the same size. As I said I heard the story every time the Census Taker came to the house”. Martin's middle name is spelled Orlendo on his tombstone inscription. All other spellings show Orlando. The correct spelling of Orlando was confirmed by daughter Pearl. Only Martin, Arne and Emma took the spelling of Arnesen - all other siblings took Arneson. [as per Aunty Mabel] Immigration ship records (http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_list.asp?jo=774) show his name as Mathias Olsen “Aukrust” so the “O” in his middle name is likely from Olsen... Martin told his grandchildren of having at one time met Jesse James - most likely during his bachelor days in South Dakota and Nebraska. While in the Fairholme area, Martin was the Justice of the Peace for the district for many years. [2]
