  Notes	Christopher came to the US in 1880 with his three children and his sister Leva and her two daughters, Julia and Mary. Thora Horten, his wife, had died a year before he left Norway. When he sold his farm there and started for America, he and Leva and their respective children traveled by team to Little Hammer, [perhaps should read Lillehammer?] a seaport town, took a steamer from there to go to Hull, England, by train to Liverpool and then boarded another steamer for America. They, too, landed at Castle Garden [sic}. The time required for their voyage was one month. Christopher was an inside finishing carpenter and coffin maker. While in Norway, Christopher helped remove some bodies buried by a snow slide. After helping dig for four days he stopped and made coffins for eight of the victims. Christopher had been noted for his singing at funerals and weddings also. After leaving Springdale, Christopher and his family lived with his brother Elef for a time and then moved to Blue Ridge where the family lived in an improvised house among the rocks above the present Clarence Williams home while the log house which is still standing was being built. Daughter Tena, married to Clarence Williams later farmed there until Clarence passed away. Roy and Ethen Winch subsequently purchased the farm and the original log house was covered over by an addition. [2, 3] In Barneveld church records, he is listed as Christopher, Sr., and his younger brother Christopher listed as Jr.

  		Trunk brought by Christopher Arneson from Norway to Wisconsin in 1880 Trunk presently owned by Curtis and Della Benning. They had a rosemaler research the design on the trunk, which was very washed out. The design is from Lom, Oppland, Norway. Each area has their own style of rosemaling. How beautifully it was restored! Perhaps it belonged to Thora Johnsdatter Horton, Christopher's wife, who died in Norway.
