  Notes	Unable to have a family of their own, Gus and Lydia legally adopted Ruth at the age of six weeks. They raised his nephew Ted Bich after the death of Ted's father Reinhold. And they also raised Lydia's niece Emma Lobe, an orphaned daughter of Gottfried and Mary Lobe. Gus travelled alone to an orphanage in St. Paul, MN, with the intentions of chosing a boy for their adopted child. He apparently took one look at the six week old Ruth, and his choice was made!
