Daniel and Louisa (Straub) Lobe

Daniel is listed as arriving in the US on May 27, 1903, having left from the port of Bremen, Germany, and traveling on the ship Grosser Kurfuerst. His status is married, age 51 years and ethnicity Russian-German (from the Ellis Island website.)

Daniel and Louise Lobe immigrated to North Dakota, USA from what was at the time known as White Russia in 1903. They brought five of their seven children with them - Pauline, John, Gottfried, Lydia, and David. The eldest daughter, Maria (Mary) married Gottlieb Bich in Russia in 1900 and they immigrated to Harvey, ND in 1901. Rebecca, the second eldest daughter remained in Russia at the time, but later moved to Germany.

As per a conversation with Grandpa Lobe, his Grandfather Daniel passed away at the home of his daughter Mary (widow of Gottlieb Bich) on the day of a Stampede at the south end of Turtle Lake. The beach at that time was called Knutson's Beach. A wagon load of family returning home in the early morning dawn, were greeted with the sad news of Daniel's passing.

Louisa and son Gottfried died within a few days of each other during the influenza epidemic of 1918. When Louisa died, Gottfried and his wife came from Canada for the funeral. Both took sick on the train trip and died while in North Dakota. The Lobes had immigrated to America in 1903, staying at first with the Daniel Boepple's in LaMoure Co., ND. Mrs. Boepple, nee Justina Lobe, was Daniel Lobe's sister.
