Mossella (Cragg) Matthews

Grandnephew Steven Cragg's memory of Mossella "Mossy"

"Mossy was a strong willed person who I remember as an elderly, always cheerful widow who lived with her youngest sister, Lucille, and their brother Walston in a house that their mother originally owned on the other side of Cincinnati from us.

Mossy ruled the roost. I remember once that she came to stay in our house for a week or two while my parents went on vacation. My sister, Susan, was a young teenager at the time and thought of herself as responsible for her younger siblings while our parents were away. Mossy had other ideas. I'm pretty sure Mossy had been a teacher in her younger days so had a lot of experience with kids. I still remember Mossy asking us if we were still hungry at dinner and slapping more mashed potatoes or whatever on our plates, before we could answer. She must have thought we looked undernourished. Susan didn't care for this at all. I suppose she at least wanted a chance to respond.

Shirley [Mossella's brother] came to live with them after he retired from Canada."
